The way Australia batted in the first Test opened up a lot of questions marks in terms of their team selection ahead of the third test. They have added Matthew Kuhnemann, the left-arm spinner in place of Mitchell Swepson who has heeb released from the squad as he is expecting the birth of his child.

Australia fielded two right-arm off-spinners in Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy in the first Test. They have two left-arm spin options in Kuhnemann and Ashton Agar to choose from in the second test. Multiple changes are expected in Australia’s playing XI for the second Test.  In this article, we pick three Australian players from the first Test who might be benched for the second.

IND vs AUS 2nd Test: 3 Australian Players From The 1st Test Who Might Be Benched In The 2nd Test

Matthew Renshaw

Renshaw scored 0 and 2 in the two innings of the first Test in Nagpur. He was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja in the first innings and Ravichandran Ashwin in the second. He was all at sea while playing against the Indian spinners. He had no clue as to what the pitch was doing. Travis Head is expected to replace him in the second Test. The left-hander is currently ranked fourth in the ICC Test rankings. In 10 innings against India, Renshaw has just scored 234 runs at an average of 23.40.

Scott Boland

Boland took a six-wicket haul on his Test debut but found bowling in Indian conditions extremely tough in the first Test. He bowled economically but failed to take wickets in the Test match. He gave away 34 runs in 17 overs but went wicketless. With Australia expecting Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc to be fit by the time the second Test starts, Boland might make way for the two.

Peter Handscomb

Cameron Green is expected to be fit for the next Test match in Delhi,. He was ruled out of the first Test due to a broken finger. With proper rehab and medication, Green is expected to be fit for the second Test. With his all-round abilities, Green will be a good addition to the middle-order in place of Peter Handscomb. The keeper-batsman scored an important 31 in the first innings but was dismissed for just six in the second.
