Here’s a frothy, icy puree that’s bursting with flavor: the Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie! We love trying every smoothie flavor imaginable for snacks, breakfasts, and evening treats, and this one hits the spot. It’s got the best fruity flavor, with a tropical finish from the pineapple. This recipe is a spin-off on our classic Strawberry Smoothie: and we might like it even better.

Ingredients in this strawberry pineapple smoothie

This strawberry pineapple smoothie has basic ingredients you’ll likely already have on hand in your freezer and fridge. Here’s what you’ll need for this one (jump to the recipe below for quantities):

  • Frozen strawberries
  • Frozen pineapple chunks
  • Banana (room temperature)
  • Greek yogurt (or omit for vegan)
  • 100% pineapple juice or orange juice (or lemon juice)
  • Milk of choice: dairy, oat, almond or coconut
  • ½ cup ice

On using juice

This strawberry pineapple banana smoothie benefits from a bit of pineapple juice or orange juice. Why? The juice helps to bring in a little natural sweetness and the acidity brings out the flavor in this smoothie. Here are a few notes:

  • 100% pineapple juice brings in a pop of tropical flavor. It really accentuates the pineapple here, and adds just enough sweetness. Of course, you might not have it on hand (we don’t usually).
  • Orange juice also works well and adds a pop of acidity. Use unsweetened orange juice.
  • Or, use milk but 1 tablespoon lemon juice for acidity. You can use only your milk of choice for this one if you don’t have any juice. But the lemon juice really accentuates the pineapple flavor. (We always have lemons on hand, but not everyone does!) With this choice, you may want to add a splash of sweetener as well: like maple syrup, honey or agave syrup.

Dairy free / vegan variation

Don’t want to use Greek yogurt? We add Greek yogurt to many of our smoothies recipes because it adds a good dose of protein. But want a vegan strawberry banana pineapple smoothie? Here’s what to do:

  • Omit the Greek yogurt
  • Use your non-dairy milk of choice: we like oat milk
  • Consider adding one of the protein adders below

Want to add even more protein to this strawberry pineapple smoothie? Protein makes it filling and even more suitable for drinking as a snack or breakfast. Here are a few protein adders:

  • Chia seeds. Add plant-based protein and fiber with chia seeds! 2 tablespoons chia seeds adds 4 grams protein and 11 grams fiber. (See Chia Seed Smoothie.)
  • Protein powder: Use a high quality vanilla protein powder (some notes on buying a good brand are here).
  • Almond butter or cashew butter. 1 tablespoon nut butter adds 4 grams protein. Keep in mind this will dull the color a bit.

This strawberry pineapple smoothie with banana is bursting with sweet, fruity flavor! It’s the ideal creamy puree for snacks and breakfasts.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 banana (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt*
  • ½ cup 100% unsweetened pineapple juice or orange juice (or use additional milk)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk (or oat, almond or coconut milk)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (omit if using juice)
  • ½ cup ice

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender, breaking the banana into pieces. Blend until creamy and frothy, stopping and scraping down the sides as necessary and adding the additional milk if necessary. For a sweeter smoothie, add ½ to 1 tablespoon honey, maple syrup or agave syrup (you likely won’t need it if using pineapple or orange juice). Serve immediately or store in a covered jar in the refrigerator for 1 day.

Notes

*Vegan variation: omit the yogurt and use ¾ cup oat milk, adding more as necessary until it comes to a frothy puree.
