Here’s a healthy fruit smoothie recipe that’s got us licking our lips (well, figuratively). The Mango Pineapple Smoothie! We’ve been on a mission to make deliciously healthy smoothie recipes with just about every fruit and vegetable. And this one is a new bright spot. Sweet mango pairs perfectly with tropical pineapple into a creamy, icy puree. One taste of this sweet and tangy blend, and you’ll want to make it on repeat.
Ingredients in this mango pineapple smoothie
This mango pineapple smoothie is refreshingly healthy: like all of our smoothies, there’s no fruit juice or lots of added sugar. It’s creamy by way of Greek yogurt, and naturally sweet from the fruit. Here are a few notes on the ingredients you need:
- Frozen diced mango: It’s easy in the frozen section at your grocery. Want to use fresh mango? See below.
- Fresh pineapple: Fresh has the best flavor and texture here. You don’t have to buy a whole pineapple: it’s typically easy to find cut into rings in the produce section.
- Banana: Room temperature banana is all you need: no need to freeze it! This supporting character makes for a creamy texture
- Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt rounds out the creaminess and packs in the protein and probiotics
- Milk: You’ll need liquid for it to blend! Use your favorite milk or even water here
- Maple syrup or honey: You shouldn’t need this, but if you have a pineapple that’s not quite on the ripe and juicy side, add a small drizzle to heighten the flavors.
Use fresh pineapple with frozen mango, or vice versa
Got fresh mango on hand, not frozen? No problem! This smoothie recipe works well with one frozen fruit and one fresh fruit. You can use the following combos:
- Fresh pineapple and frozen mango
- Fresh mango and frozen pineapple
- Frozen for both: it becomes very icy, but you can go off script and try this: just add more liquid to get it to blend
- Fresh for both: if you try this, proceed with caution! Use a frozen banana and increase the ice to about 1 to 1 ½ cups ice (like in this banana smoothie)
Mix-ins for this mango pineapple smoothie
Want to change up this mango pineapple smoothie with mix-ins instead? There are a few additions that go well with the tropical flavors here! Here’s what we’d recommend trying:
- Coconut: Coconut pairs well with these flavors! Throw in a handful of shredded coconut, or use coconut milk for part or all of the liquid.
- Basil or mint: Using a fresh herb makes the flavors more intriguing! These add a tasty freshness.
- Almond or cashew butter: Adding nut butter increases the protein to make it more filling.
Vegan variation
Want to make this mango pineapple smoothie vegan? Use your favorite non-dairy milk to substitute for the milk and the Greek yogurt. Our favorite to use in smoothies is oat milk: it has the best creamy texture and neutral flavor. You could also use a vegan yogurt if you have a brand you love.
