But Alex and I have a method that ends up in perfectly diced butternut squash. We use this method all the time, like when we make our butternut squash risotto or our curried butternut squash soup. Here’s our step by step guide for how to cut butternut squash, including a video of me cutting butternut squash in our kitchen.

How to cut butternut squash step by step
Step 1
Using a large chef’s knife, cut off the top of the butternut squash.
Step 2
Cut off the neck of the butternut squash, right where the neck meets the base.
Step 3
Use a vegetable peeler to peel off the skin of the neck and the base.
Step 4
Slice the base in half, and use a spoon to scoop out the seeds.
Step 5
Cut a flat edge on the side of the neck, to use as a base.
Step 6
Cut the neck into roughly 1/4″ slices.
Step 7
Cut the slices into strips, then turn the strips and chop them crosswise to create cubes.
Step 8
Slice off the end of the base and slice it into roughly 1/4″ slices. Then chop the slices crosswise to create cubes.
