Everyone we’ve served this pea dip to raves about it! With just 3 ingredients, it’s an easy party appetizer to add to your list of party dip recipes.

Green pea dip

It’s green, it’s healthy, but no joke: everyone we’ve served it to simply raves about it! So much so that we hear the refrain: “Can you make that pea dip again?” It’s one of our favorite party dip recipes because it’s easy, healthy, and delicious. Even self-avowed pea haters love it! Blend up green peas and cilantro with a bit of salse verde and it’s pure magic as a party snack. Serve it with tortilla chips or pita chips and your guests will park themselves in front of the bowl.

How to make pea dip

Credit for this very tasty pea dip goes to my sister’s mother-in-law (or, my brother-in-law’s mother?). Either way, Laury lives in Alaska and is an all-around fantastic person. On a trip to Alaska (where I caught my first fish), she served us this green pea dip. And the entire family was hooked!

Here’s Alex and my take on that recipe. The premise is so simple, it barely needs explaining:

  • Thaw a bag of frozen peas.
  • Throw those green peas into a blender or food processor with a few handfuls of cilantro and a jar of salsa verde.
  • Blend it together into a beautiful green puree!

What results is a fresh green pea dip that even cilantro and pea haters pledge their love to! Promise, it’s happened at our house multiple times. This recipe one of our go-to’s for entertaining and one of our favorite green pea recipes. It also works for a wide variety of diets: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free. We’ve held onto it for too long not to share!

The best way to store cilantro?

Cilantro is a main ingredient in this green pea dip, so we thought we’d share our favorite cilantro tip. Maybe you’ve had it happen: you buy cilantro, put it in a plastic bag in the grocery, and then throw it into your crisper drawer in the refrigerator. You open the drawer the next day and the cilantro has already started to turn into some sort of blackish molded version of itself. (You feeling us?)

What’s the best way to store cilantro? An herb saver! We love this herb saver that keeps herbs fresh for a few weeks! Simply place the fresh herb bunches in water and close the top. Here’s the herb saver we use.

    1. Ooo thank you! It’s so easy, it’s become a go-to for us when we’re entertaining. We used to call it pea dip but decided it needed some new branding :)

  1. Serve with red corn tortilla chips or beet chips and Christmas slam dunk! Maybe my pea-averse family will never know. Shhh…

    1. Ooo I LOVE that idea! Many people we’ve served it to have liked it even though they didn’t like peas…so it’s worth a try! :)

  2. This dip looks really good. I am surprised by the flavors (I’d never have combined peas and cilantro in a dip!) so I’m going to make it to see how good it is. Dips are so handy at this time of the year when you need something to serve with a few drinks. Thanks for sharing such a simple but creative recipe.

  3. Who would have thought frozen peas for a dip?! Totally intrigued by this one! Would make such a great after-school snack too. Do you have a specific brand of salsa verde that you like? There’s so much variation between the brands and I want to try to make this just like you. :)

  4. WOW. Just wow. I was really skeptical about this but was intrigued enough to try. Turned out to be incredibly delicious and, best of all, so simple. Thanks for the recipe!

  5. Broke out the deck chairs and this dip for the kickoff to summer this past weekend. As promised, it was a hit with everyone. Did it with crostini one night, tortilla chips the next, and as a spread on grilled chicken sandwiches. We’re hooked, thank you!

  6. How long will it keep? And do you need to add lemon or other citrus to help maintain the green color?

    1. You can refrigerated for up to 3 days! The green color will fade a bit, so it’s best eaten right away. The salsa verde has some acid that can help preserve, but you could also use some lime juice if desired.

  7. Would it work to add edamame (shelled, boiled/steamed, cooled) to get protein in there? Thinking of crudites for dipping, as a fresh light summertime lunch/snack during this heatwave…

  8. This sounds great, but I have an allergy to cilantro. What do you think of parsley and maybe some basil as a substitute?
